Washington state lawmakers approve HB 1087, a bill creating a state Long-Term Services and Supports Trust Act. Washington state gov. Jay Inslee, D, signs the bill into law in May of 2019.
Deadline to Secure Private LTC Coverage
In order to apply for an exemption to the WA Cares Fund payroll tax, employee must have purchased a qualifying private long-term care insurance plan before Nov. 1, 2021.
WA Cares Fund is Amended
During the Week of Jan. 10th, 2022 the executive session of Washington’s House Appropriations Committee, took action on both HB 1732 (to delay the program by 18-months) and HB 1733 (to add classes of exempt individuals).
WA Cares Fund Tax Officially Paused
Governor Jay Inslee signed two bills on Thursday afternoon (1/27/22) officially delaying the program tax collection until July 2023. The delay will allow the legislature to make key improvements to the WA Cares Fund.

The WA Cares Fund tax will begin on July 2023 after a brief delay. If you have not opted out of the tax, you'll be taxed at .58% of your W2 earnings.
